Collections and Bird Of Prey Handling

The resident birds of prey are health checked and taken out around the site regularly by the bird handling team of volunteers. To begin the bird of prey training, volunteers would be expected to attend a minimum of three collections with experienced bird handlers. They tend to meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9 am – 12 pm. You are also welcome to help at collections as a volunteer without being a bird handler. Collections are on different days throughout the year.

Volunteers are needed to help deliver a programme of education about wildlife and conservation and to raise much needed funds for Secret World. This is achieved through a dedicated group who attend residential homes, commercial venues, such as supermarkets and give talks at our special open events. We are looking for volunteers who are presentable, keen and enthusiastic when talking to members of the public about Secret World and who are able to take part in collections on either weekdays or weekends as required.   Once you are comfortable with going out on the collections with the team, you could begin training to handle our resident birds of prey if you so wished.
