Secret World Wildlife Rescue rescues around 5,000 animals every year and we couldn’t do this without an amazing team of over 300 volunteers. Volunteers help with everything from rescuing animal casualties, answering phones at reception, caring for orphan animals, supporting our animal carers, helping in our laundry, maintaining the facilities and grounds, taking animals to and from the local vets and wildlife releases. You could also train to handle our resident birds of prey and take them out for educational activities.
If wildlife care seems a bit daunting, perhaps you could volunteer at an open day a few times a year, or help keep the charity running with some admin / finance support, office cleaning, making promotional materials, or helping us run our annual charity ball and auction.
We are also keen to have more volunteers to join our charity shop team in Burnham-on-Sea if you could spare a few hours each week to help sort donations, putting out clothing or on the till.
Are you interested in helping others learn about British wildlife and inspiring the next generation to get out and appreciate nature? If so, Secret World Wildlife Rescue also runs educational sessions for children, adults and veterinary professionals throughout the year and we require volunteers to support our learning staff with these activities.
With a variety of roles to suit different skills, interests and availability you can help for a few hours a week, a couple of days a month or even just one or two days a year. Any time you can offer us is extremely valuable and very much appreciated.
As a volunteer you can meet new friends, learn new skills, improve your CV, get fit and help British wildlife. If you are over 18 years of age and would like to join our charity volunteer team please submit an application today!

“I volunteer because I love animals and it is so rewarding seeing an animal survive through its bad times and being released in a healthy state. My favourite thing about working at Secret World is that I have hands-on experience with a varied amount of different animals. The least favourite part of volunteering is going home at the end of the day.”
“I get so much pleasure from helping all the animals that come in on a daily basis. Even the mundane jobs are enjoyable and the time flies by when you are having fun. You get to work with a great variety of people with lots of different skills.”
