About Volunteering at
Secret World Wildlife Rescue
If you are over 18 and have some time to spare we have a variety of different volunteering roles you can get involved with!
Secret World Wildlife Rescue rescues around 5,000 animals every year and we couldn’t do this without an amazing team of over 300 volunteers. Volunteers help with everything from rescuing animal casualties, answering phones at reception, supporting our animal care staff, helping in our laundry, maintaining the facilities and grounds, taking animals to and from the local vets and wildlife releases.
For Work Experience enquiries please check out our work experience page.
We are particularly looking for help in our charity shops (Burnham-on-Sea, Langport, Glastonbury, Bridgwater) and Retail Operations Centre, and response drivers in all areas of Somerset.

Whilst our Volunteer Wildlife Care Assistant and our Receptionist roles do require a regular weekly commitment, we do also have opportunities for volunteers who may only be able to help out once month or a couple of times of year helping our Fundraising department with events. We also have flexible roles such as Laundry and helping our Maintenance team where a few hours each week or once a fortnight is really handy!
We have recently expanded our network of charity shops which help us to raise funds to care for the wildlife we’re looking after at our main site. We now have shops in Burnham-on-sea, Glastonbury, Langport, and Bridgwater. There’s always plenty to do in our shops, so we’d be very grateful if you could spare a few hours each week to help sort donations, putting out clothing, or serving customers on the till. We are also looking for volunteers to drive our vans and help with collecting and distributing stock between our shops, so if you’re looking for a flexible role and enjoy being behind the wheel get in touch!

As a volunteer you can meet new friends, learn new skills, improve your CV, get fit and help British wildlife. If you are over 18 years of age and would like to join our charity volunteer team please submit an application today!

“I absolutely love Secret World and volunteering with them, it gives me amazing opportunities to be able to see wildlife up close. Being able to help, care and rehab them back for release is the most surreal feeling, giving them a second chance at life and returning them to where they belong.
Volunteering at Secret World has given me so much knowledge about all sorts of wildlife and the team are very supportive at helping me gain more experience and confidence.”
“I have really enjoyed my first year and feel part of the SW “family” now and it has given me a purpose since retiring. Absolutely loving it, thank you!”
