News Latest news Secret World challengers With our Silver Challenge now well under way, several staff and volunteers have signed up for a challenge and committed to raise a minimum of £100 each this year as part of Secret World's silver jubilee. We have events for all ages and abilities – some very challenging, some designed more for family fun. Mark and Nicki Wiltshire of Diverse Fine Food have already completed four challenge events – the Longleat 10k, Humdinger Half Marathon, New Zealand Ironman and Yeovil Half Marathon – as they endeavour to raise £40,000 this year in conjunction with their staff, suppliers and customers. Back at Secret World, our Head of Finance Tracey Healy has signed up for the Jurassic Beast Cycle in May and has collared our new Finance Officer Daniel Harding to do the same. “It’s the least I can do for the charity,” Tracey said, adding that she cycles to work whenever possible in preparation for the 100-mile challenge, and will double her practice sessions in the lead-up to the event. This weekend, reception worker and animal carer Harry Petheram will be flying the Secret World colours at the Taunton Half Marathon, while volunteer co-ordinator Duncan Cousens has pledged his all for September’s Bridgwater Half Marathon. Harry started volunteering for Secret World when he was 16 and this will be his first half marathon. “Since early January, I have been out road-running four days a week and I’m pretty excited about Sunday,” Harry said. “The weather forecast looks very good so my target time is 1 hour 50 minutes.” Meanwhile, finance officer Alison Cox and her husband Gary have opted to cycle the Strawberry Line from Yatton to Cheddar in the summer; and our release co-ordinator Tristan Cooper and volunteer response driver Pete Blannin will bare their soles for the fire walk at the Silver Easter Bonanza here at Secret World. It is our hope that as many Secret World supporters as possible will choose to join us and sign up for an event, great or small, as we set down a marker of 25 years of helping British wildlife.
