Wildlife Course for Veterinary Professionals

October 31, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

$150

This wildlife course is for veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, veterinary students and student veterinary nurses. The course is usually delivered on site at Secret World Wildlife Rescue with a practical component, but sadly due to COVID-19 restrictions we are currently unable to do that. Instead, the course will be run over two sessions on Zoom.

The first part of the course will cover legal and ethical considerations when treating British wildlife casualties, triage, first aid and emergency care of neonates. The second part will cover primary care of common conditions in birds and in mammals, with expanded talks on hedgehogs and badgers, as well as extra time spent on those areas of the course usually delivered in practical sessions.

The course is led by Liz Mullineaux, Scientific Advisor to SWWR and an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Wildlife Medicine (Mammalian), who has over 20 years of experience in this area.

In order to avoid an excessive amount of Zoom in one session, the course will be split over two dates:

Part 1: Sunday 31st  October 10am to 2pm

Part 2: Sunday 7th November 10am to 2pm

It is NOT possible to register for just one part of the course. Those unable to attend both dates will be able to ‘catch up’ on a Zoom recording which will be available for 1wk after the course date.

Course delegates will receive an electronic certificate of attendance and access to a Dropbox of useful electronic British wildlife resources. Delegates will also be eligible for £10 off our new SWWR book for wildlife rehabilitators, ‘An Introduction to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release’, available in the spring. There will also be a special offer on BSAVA Manual of Wildlife Casualties for those registering for this course, in the form of a discount code to claim £10 off the print or digital versions of the manual.

Delegates must be registered veterinary surgeons or registered veterinary nurses, or students registered for qualifications in those subjects. Proof of registration may be requested. We would recommend Wildlife Course 3, which contains similar information, for those who are not veterinary professionals.

The course ticket price is as follows:
Vet CPD: Wildlife Rehab and Release: £150.00

Payment is non-refundable, alternative dates can be offered
