How to donate or recycle your stuff

You don’t have to make a cash donation to help Secret World Wildlife Rescue care for British wildlife. We gladly accept donated items and can help you recycle certain things, so if you’re having a clear-out please read this page before you get rid of anything!

Donating items to sell

We are able to accept donated items – new or preloved – at our charity shops. All we ask is that items are clean and in a resaleable condition. Contact details for our shops can be found on our Charity Shops page.

If you have any large items please let us know in advance so we can advise whether we currently have space for them. In some circumstances we may be able to collect the items from you, please feel free to enquire when you get in touch.

We have a retail “hub” near Highbridge where most donations are sorted and sent out to our charity shops. If you have any questions about donating items you can contact the team on 01278 574903 or retailhub@secretworld.org.

Recycle for charity

Got something broken that we can’t sell in our shops? Or some old foreign money in the back of a drawer? Don’t get rid of it; you may be able to recycle them and raise money for wildlife.

We work with a couple of partners to turn your old stuff into donations. Here’s what you can send in:

  • Inkjet cartridges. Either new or remanufactured. Check your cartridges are on the Recycle4Charity Wanted List first. If they’ll accept them, use our unique registration link to get started: https://www.recycle4charity.co.uk/Register/C54368. You can either print out a freepost label (ideal if you’ve only got a few) or order a collection box if you can get more together. Once you have a minimum of 15 cartridges in your collection box, you can return it free of charge.
  • Jewellery and banknotes.  Any jewellery – gold, silver, costume jewellery, watches, broken and damaged items (like odd earrings, snapped chains or items with missing stones).
You can also donate any unwanted banknotes from ANY country of any age, so all of those obsolete pre-euro notes are a perfect start!

Our partners at Recycling for Good Causes will reuse and recycle the jewellery and Banknotes, giving the proceeds to Secret World Wildlife Rescue, saving precious raw materials at the same time.

If you would like to send your jewellery and banknote recycling to us, simply use your own envelope or jiffy bag (No bigger than A5 in size) and post free of charge by printing out our SWWR Freepost Recycling for Good Causes label and attaching to your envelope.

*Please do not send coins or stamps to the freepost address as the postage costs will far outweigh your donation. *

  • Postage stamps. You can now donate your used stamps to raise much needed funds for Secret World Wildlife Rescue. All kinds of stamps are welcome, on or off paper.

Simply cut or carefully rip the postage stamp from the used envelope, being careful that you don’t damage the stamp, and once you have a collection pop them in an envelope making sure you have the correct postage to:

    Secret World Wildlife Rescue

    PO Box 16992

    Sutton Coldfield

    B73 9YA

    (*postage needs to be applied*)

Recycling for Good Causes will arrange collections for larger quantities of stamps weighing over 10kgs. This equates to about two buckets full of stamps. Contact info@recyclingforgoodcauses.org or 0800 633 5323 for more information.

  • Request a recycling bag and donate even more. Request a collection bag from Recycling for Good Causes and you can send all of the following in one go:
    – Mobile Phones
    – Stamps
    – Jewellery
    – Watches
    – Banknotes and coins
    – Cameras
Just email or call the freephone number above, or visit www.recyclingforgoodcauses.org and order your recycling bag.

These items can also be dropped off at our centre, just let us know they’re for recycling and we’ll pop them into one of our collection boxes or bags.

Donating items to support our work

If you would prefer to donate something for the animals in our care, we gladly accept donated food, bedding and toys. Our Amazon wishlist is a great place to start, which allows you to purchase items online for delivery to our centre. We don’t mind where you order donations from, but our wishlist is updated regularly and it’s a good place to see what we’re most in need of.

We have a donation drop-off point outside our reception where gifts can be left any time between 8am – 8pm. If you have a favourite animal, the following are always useful to us:
