giving in memoriam

Remember your loved ones at Secret World Wildlife Rescue.

swanCelebrate the life of a loved one by leaving a gift to Secret World in their memory.

By supporting our work with injured and orphaned wildlife, this lasting gift will be remembered long into the future.

If you wish to remember a loved one with a lasting memorial at Secret World, we have a number of options to consider and whichever you choose, you can be safe in the knowledge that you will also be helping protect wildlife, their habitats and the environment. Together, we can build a tribute which your loved one would have appreciated.

The Secret World Wildlife Rescue Tribute Fund

A regular donation to Secret World made on a special date, such as a birthday or anniversary, is easy to set up and a great way to support wildlife and conservation issues, particularly if that was something your loved one was passionate about. For example, an annual donation of:

  • £50 would pay for the milk replacement needed to hand rear one orphaned injured hedgehog
  • £100 would pay for a bottle of metacam (pain relief) for injured birds and mammals
  • £150 would pay for an operation on a swan that has swallowed discarded fishing tackle
  • £200 would pay for 30 cardboard bird and large animal carriers for volunteer drivers
  • £500 would pay for x-rays for 10 deer injured in road traffic accidents
  • £650 would pay for a large incubator for a badger or fawn

otterA Donation instead of Flowers

Your Will is a way of ensuring your wishes are upheld. Many people make it clear in their Wills that they would like to see donations made to Secret World in lieu of floral tributes. All these donations will go directly to our emergency work helping injured / orphaned wildlife. To do this, all you need is to inform your solicitor that this is your intention; a simple paragraph like the one below should suffice.

“I wish that there be no flowers at my funeral but instead donations be made to Secret World Wildlife Rescue (charity No. 1097119), New Road, Somerset, TA9 3PZ.”

An even small donation, like a gift of £20, makes a huge difference to our work. For example, just £15 would pay for a course of antibiotics for a bird that has been caught by a cat.

In Memoriam Book

To celebrate a loved ones life, please come along and write in the Secret World Memoriam book. This costs as little as £50 for up to 45 characters and is a great way to leave a lasting memorial whilst at the same time supporting our vital work. A £50 donation will buy the milk replacement needed to hand rear an orphaned hedgehog like Crusty. When Crusty the Hedgehog arrived he was under nourished and had ringworm, causing him to lose condition and almost all of his prickles! With much care, attention and some hearty meals, Crusty has now made a full recovery and will be released in spring.

plaqueIn Memoriam Plaque on Memorial Board

Placed prominently in the courtyard at Secret World, the memorial board is a popular place for remembering loved ones. You can write a message of remembrance in celebration of a loved ones life.
The memorial board is blessed by the local vicar on an annual basis.

Plaques are priced at just £200. A donation for this amount would allow us to purchase 30 cardboard bird and animal carriers for our volunteer drivers, to use when collecting injured wildlife.

Remembrance Tree

As part of the Secret World Nature Trail, we have developed some wonderful habitats for a plethora of British wildlife, plants, amphibians and insects. This Site of Special Scientific Interest incorporates our Millennium Wood and Horse Chestnut Avenue where remembrance trees are located.

  • A new tree planted with plaque – at a cost of £500 this would allow Secret World to purchase new bird boxes for our resident birds of prey which are used in our education work with schools and groups
  • A Plaque placed on existing tree – costs just £350, this would allow Secret World to purchase a medium sized incubator for small mammals and orphaned cub.
