With the award of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, we are beginning the development and delivery of an extensive learning programme at Secret World, aiming to reconnect the public with nature and to explore the farming heritage of the Somerset Levels.

Schools and youth community groups

  • A range of outreach workshops are available for schools and youth community groups ranging from nursery to secondary level.
  • Workshops can be tailored to suit your curriculum or topic needs. Each session involves meeting oneof our resident animals, and is led by a trained member of the Learning Team.
  • Workshops are charged at £1.50 per student/child with a £5.00 travel surcharge for schools or groups over 2 miles away from Secret World.

For further information please contact Sophie Hampson, Learning and Outreach Manager by e-mail.

In 2014, we will be restoring and converting an existing Grade II Listed barn into a multi-purpose learning centre and meeting room.

The restoration will preserve and protect the most important historical features of the building whilst giving Secret World the facilities to accommodate learning and community groups on-site, host conferences and meetings, run training sessions and provide additional space for public open weekend activities.

We will not be taking bookings for school or community group on-site visits until 2015.

Adult community groups

  • If you belong to a group or association wishing for a talk from us, we have an experienced team of public engagement staff and volunteers who deliver talks on the work that is carried out at Secret World.
  • We ask for a minimum donation of £50 to cover our costs during a talk, travel expenses (depending on location) and bookings are subject to volunteer and staff availability.

For further information, please contact Debbie O‘ Keefe, Fundraising Coordinator by e-mail or on 01278 783250

Professional Training – raising standards of wildlife care

There is very little provision for professional training in the specific demands of treating wildlife, so as a responsible organisation, we share our knowledge and expertise by putting on a range of courses and programmes, aimed at professionals.
At the moment, we run a modest professional training programme for trainee vets, vet nurses, animal carers and the rescue services requiring training and work experience.

We would like to do more. If you agree that this work is important, please help us by making a donation now.
