Good luck to the half marathoners!

This Sunday (6th September) 15 people are running in the Bristol Half Marathon on behalf of Secret World Wildlife Rescue. All of them have been training hard and pestering family, friends and colleages for sponsorship.

This is the first time Secret World has bought a bulk number of places for a running event and really pleased with the interest shown, so keep an eye on this website for new events that you can take part in on behalf of the charity.

But for now, good luck to everyone running in Sunday’s Bristol Half Marathon on behalf of Secret World, we hope you manage to enjoy it!

Good luck to the Dartmoor Trekers!

backbadger-resizedEveryone here at Secret World is wishing the best of luck to the brave volunteers who are putting their best feet forward for the charity this weekend! The Dartmoor Expedition, which has been organised and is being led by British Army Soldier Simon Perrott, will see the team treking 45 miles, spending 2 nights sleeping in simple shelters that they will be putting up themselves, and living off military rations.

All of the volunteers have been hard work training for this event, as well gathering the required minimum sponsorship to take part – we’ll let you know next week how they get on!

There is a free Secret World fundraising pack available if you are keen to organise your own fundraising event on behalf of the charity; to get your copy, or to request to be kept informed of future Secret World fundraising events, e-mail the fundraising team direct or call us on 01278 783250.

We’re up to 9 miles!

Nope, that’s not a typing error; we’re up to 9 miles! After the success of the week before when the eight mile run went surprisingly smoothly, both Lisa and myself ticked off another couple of easy 3 mile runs with the intention of doing the eight again last week.

But sat in the office contemplating what route to run, and in all honesty, with me feeling a bit lazy and suggesting that five miles would be plenty, Lisa took the bull by the horns and suggested I stopped being a big girl and that we went straight up to 9 miles! The longest yet….. 5 miles!

So I know that last time I wrote I said that we’d probably stick to the four mile runs for another week or so…. well Lisa and myself decided to take the bull by the horns and attempt a five mile run!

Simon came with us again, so on Tuesday night after work we laced up our trainers and hit the road. Now I’m not going to try and claim that it was easy, but I’m really pleased to tell you that I finished the run with no stopping at all! The time wasn’t overly quick, but it was a great feeling knowing that I was starting to be able to cope with longer distances, and it has only got me more motivated!

Yesterday I was still feeling a little stiff from Tuesdays exertions, so did a short interval training session, and then I’ll prob look to do a 3 or 4 mile run over the weekend (probably on Sunday as I’m playing cricket tomorrow). Lisa is off for a couple of weeks now, so whilst she is away I’ll be keeping the four and five mile runs going, and then when she’s back to work Simon’s going to take us out for a 6 miler!!!!

We do have some spaces avaialble for the Bristol Half Marathon, for more details e-mail me!
