Seal rescue at Secret World

Seal rescue at Secret World

In the last couple of weeks Secret World has rescued another two seals. However, whereas Sandy (see pictures here) was a Common Seal, the two most recent rescues have been Grey Seals.

The first, Gandalf, was rescued from Brean Beach, and although very underweight does seem to be responding well to some TLC. Once he is well enough he will be transported to the Seal Sanctuary in Gweek, Cornwall for the final stage of his rehabilitation , but in the meantime he has now been put into an outside tank . The second, Merlin, was picked up from Weston Super Mare beach looking tired and exhausted, but it is older and heavier than Gandalf and should be healthy enough to go into an outside tank very soon. Sammy the Seal, who Secret World cared for last year, was the charity’s first seal rescue in 21 years of wildlife care, so to have three in such quick succession has taken us all a little bit by surprise.

Secret World are desperately hoping that someone out there might be able to help Sammy the Seal get to Scotland

Sammy was found alone on a beach in Berrow on 21st August with some injuries and infection on his mouth, so was brought to Secret World for some much needed medical attention. He’s doingwell but now desperately needs to be transferred to a wildlife centre in Scotlandwhere his rehabilitation can continue and he can be amongst more seals before he can hopefully be released back into the wild.

Flying Sammy would be the preferable as the shorter journey would reduce stress, so we are in need of a plane, a pilot and fuel. The total cost of this would be somewhere in the region of £2000 – £2500, so if you think you can help, please e-mail us or call 01278 783250

It costs over £1000 a day to run Secret World, can you help us, click here
