Week ending Friday July 24th
Sorry, I have got really behind with my blog!! It was a busy week with many casualties coming in probably due to the wet weather. Any animal depending on flying insects is going to find it hard to cope in such long spells of rain. Both birds of prey, swifts and bats were being admitted.
We were filming with the crew for the programme for 24/7 who have been following Vicki, one of volunteers, who has been rearing hedgehogs. They also were able to see Bunny and Clyde, who had been reared by Debbie, being released in Debbie’s garden. With this wet weather, there should be plenty of slugs!!

Debbie's Bunny and Clyde now ready for release
The crew followed several rescues the next day and did some filming with me and the deer in the evening. It was while we were there that I heard sounds that were coming from one of the badger enclosures. Sadly on looking inside the badger boxes we found that one of the cubs were fitting. It was taken straight through to the vets but sadly was beyond help. It is always difficult to accept that these cubs are very often orphaned for a reason and there can be underlying problems with them. It was typical that when we went back to film the deer, they were more interested in their food and a selection of bums was all we got !!

Nothing to film - just bums !!
On the Thursday the weather was brighter and both a kestrel and a buzzard went for release. The Barn Owl is a lot better and he will be going soon.

Buzzard going home
