Sunday July 12th
Much better day and everyone pleased with the way the event was going. A couple of people had their tents blown down overnight but it all got sorted. Albert had spent the whole weekend following all the visiting dogs and disgraced himself by cocking his leg on the front of the stage. At this point I moved off pretending he wasn’t with me!
It was busy with people and casualties as the hospital room was overflowing by the end of the day. Our first Shellduckling arrived and a very pretty baby moorhen with its blue eye shadow and red beak.

Our first Shelducking

That fantastic eyeshadow and boy, what big feet!
There was a late call out by the RSPCA for an RTA deer near the Pipers Inn near Street. Luckily Derek was able to come with me as it was in the hedge. When we arrived the motorist had kindly stayed with it and was very upset by the whole event. The deer was obviously distressed but had no visual injuries so we quickly got him into the ambulance and brought him home. Sadly by the time we had got back it was obvious that he had internal bleeding and was in a lot of pain so I quickly put him to sleep. He was such a lovely roe buck – unfortunately it seems to happen all too often. It was gone 1 a.m. before it was all sorted.
