Thursday 6th August

Sadly the Egret did not get through the night.

Quite a lot of volunteers in today so Lisa was able to get quite a few of the outstanding jobs done. She even managed to go on a 9 mile run with Jamie after work as they are both training for the Bristol Half Marathon. It takes so much effort to do these things. Few people realise the amount of training that they have to do. I had entertained the idea of running a few years back but my body had other ideas. I’ll go back to the wing walking !!!

Our first programme on the Michaela Strachan’s series was shown tonight. I hope our supporters will have enjoyed seeing all the work that goes on behind the scenes. It’s nice for our staff and volunteers to have the chance to appear as they are all part of our team but Apologies must go michaelastrachan1-2to Dave Harrison, who does so much for us as a volunteer and then was given the wrong name in the programme! There’s another one coming up in a fortnight’s time so watch out for it. That one will tell the story about Chaela, the red deer and Simon’s impressive rescue of a sow badger and cub in a drainage hole!

Albert is definitely still limping.

You may not wish to enter the Bristol Half Marathon, but there are two spaces on the Dartmoor Dare which is just over a week away. 45 miles in 3 days – no tents, toilets and all on army rations. Give us a ring if you want to have a go!! Hopefully Dartmoor will look more welcoming on a sunny day!

Bleak and threatening - but you'll be fine !!

Dare you do Dartmoor?

Here at Secret World we would like to lay down a challenge…….backbadger-resized

Could you  lay down all your luxuries, pull on your boots and walk Dartmoor to raise money for our Charity. This is no light walk in the countryside. We are talking 45 miles in 3 days. No tents just primitive shelters. No field kitchen, just Army rations. No hair straighteners, toilets or shower blocks, just you as mother nature intended.

Its going to be tough, tiring and tormenting

14th, 15th 16th August 2009

The expedition is being led by two members of the British Forces.  Trained in survival at its most basic level. They will take you to some of the most remote places on Dartmoor, where you will be taught to build your own overnight shelter, out of basic facilities. You will be issued with a 24hr ration pack for the first leg of your journey.

But it wont be all bad…………

You will see some of the most untouched and beautiful countryside in Britain, you will make friends to last a lifetime and you will be raising vital funds for Secret World Wildlife Rescue.
